I watched the Gladiator 2 trailer last week and thought it would be fun to fill the arena with epoxy resin water as seen in the trailer.

When they flooded the Roman Colosseum from naval battles, the underground levels were not even made yet they were actually using what was once the man made lake from Emperor Nero Palace.

Yeah, the Roman Colosseum was built for the people and to solidify that fact the Colosseum was built directly on top of the man made lake that Emperor Nero had made for himself to use.

And they actually use the same underground plumbing that was used to fill Nero lake to fill and then quickly drain the Colosseum of water

Anyone else watch Boylei to calm you down? ❤ your vids, man

It was only filled with water early on, I believe only a couple of times, before they even built the tunnels underneath. Once those tunnels were built, they couldn't flood it anymore.

The ripple water effects made this so satisfying. I'm not sure why they feel so noteworthy here as opposed to the other times you've used it

I'm glad to hear somebody remembers the Titans, that was a good movie that tends to get overlooked a lot.

1:50 the underground passage ways were initialy meant for water but were converted to tunnnels and cages for animals after it got too time consuming to flood and drain the arena

This is what the Colosseum look like before an earthquake shook and took down a wall 0:21 also the Romans didn’t fill the Colosseum with water all the time it was just for special events because it caused damage to the Colosseum

Fun fact: Parts of 'Remember the Titans' was filmed at the highschool I was attending. The football coach got sick of seeing camera crew equipment in the weight room so he had the team move it outside where it got rained on and was damaged. The school got nothing in return for his boneheaded decision. Thanks, coach!

Dang, that's timing, been in the Colosseum yesterday. Fantastic building. Awesome diorama as I showed my wife drawings of those ship battles in the arena.

As someone who has played Age of Empires II for 25 years, I approve the ships. Just don't forget your upgrades. 😂

It was very funny watching this trailer in the cinema and telling the people i went with that its historically accurate (the naval battle in collosseum, im not gonna be the one who analyses all historically accurate aspects). They were surprisingly shocked about it. Looks great Mr. Hobby Time!

The Colosseum was designed with a complex system of tunnels, aqueducts, and drainage channels underneath the main arena floor. When these structures were flooded, they could transform the Colosseum into a temporary lake or pool, allowing the staging of naval battles and the display of aquatic animal hunts.

The process involved several steps:

Blocking the main drainage channels to prevent water from escaping.

Diverting water from nearby aqueducts into the substructure of the Colosseum.

Raising the arena floor with removable wooden planks or platforms to create a watertight basin.

Filling this basin with water, typically to a depth of several feet, creating a large body of water within the Colosseum.

The scale of these naval re-enactments was impressive, with ships, crews, and even small islands constructed within the flooded arena. Naumachiae were grandiose spectacles that demonstrated the Romans' engineering prowess and their ability to transform the Colosseum into a vast, temporary aquatic stage

Great build! Just a tip for next time: you can use those mini round rainbow sprinkles to mimic lots of people! (I've seen it done on cakes!) Would add a fun touch of color too!
