A 2 year old describing their secret baptism as a televised waterboarding with a chillaxed tone is a VERY 2-year-old move.

At least I got to decide when I was baptized, but GOD, that must've been a weird experience.

Its sad to see stuff like this still happening. For a lot of denominations, baptism is something that needs to be chosen by the person getting baptized. That’s the difference between baptism and something like a christening/Dedications. Both my grandparents were pastors and they refused to baptize anyone under the age of eight. And even after someone was of age, they still were required to have a meeting with them to talk about why they wanted to be baptized.

I completely understand turning off comments, people love to hate on people who are doing better. I hope you are able to heal and hope the trolls leave you alone

I was a YMCA Lifeguard in High School. Every other Sunday, before the birthday parties, we had a church come in and do Baptisms for an hour. The funniest thing was we didn't close the pool so the lap swimmers where still doing their thing a few feet away. Extra funny (at least to my agnostic butt) I know for a fact the swim lesson kids pissed right where half of those people where being dipped.

A room of chanting elders That partake in the flesh and blood of a demigod televising the waterboarding of a child. Sounds dystopian as hell.

My church has a specific age (6) for baptism and always lets the kid decide, including telling the kid what it means. This is horrible, I'm so sorry, Wild Child.

Edit: I go to a non denominational Church, close to pentecostal and Baptist.

Edit 2: We ask the PARENTS, AND THEY ARE ALWAYS THERE WITH THE CHILD DURING IT. *THE CHOICE IS NOT COMPLETELY UP TO THE CHILD!!!*

"I won't!"

My Nan baptised me when I was young too. The church had a blow up water slide that led into a small pool, and I really wanted to go on it instead of waiting in-line. So when they called all the kids getting baptised and my Nan encouraged me to go I got in-line. Thus I went on a water slide then I was dunked under water with my Nan say prayers. It was a wild day for 5 yr old me. My parents understandably were very pissed when My Nan decided to spread the ‘great news’ of my baptism. No sleepovers at Nans for about year after that. 🙃

Everything up until the towel found similar to how much charge does baptism you were going to the water was like a waterproof gown or garments for the water the bishop would be there with you and hold your hand and say a prayer and then he would dunk you in the water and then bring you back up a lot less traumatizing than a towel in your face before dunking you in the water aggressively. Also they wait till your eight

As a Christian myself i would like to address something. When you want to baptize, you baptize when you think you're ready spiritually, physically and mentally to tell people that you believe in Jesus publicly (public identification) . In this scenario, wild child can't really grasp or understand truly what it is yet. Which is why I'd say twelve and over are the appropriate ages to baptize. But all in all it has to come from your heart ❤️❤️

The church I grew up in did baptism for babies, but it wasn't traumatic and it was more for the congregation to accept their role in helping to raise the child. Literally in the prayers. All the pastor did was pour a few handfuls of water over the baby's head and pray. It was up to the individual if they chose to baptize again later for themselves

I'm Polish and our baptisms look like the beginning scene from Lion King where Simba gets marked by Rafiki.

At least where I am from (and the Polish church I attended in England), we just get a little cross drawn on our foreheads with holy water as babies or the full sign of the cross while being splashed with a bit of holy water depending on the priest. This usually happens before we are capable of forming memories and usually theres a nice line in the front of chubby babies dressed in white surrounded by family in suits and dresses.

It usually happens at the beginning of mass but you can opt in to have it after or completely private. The only pictures/videos are taken by family and no flash is used. The whole church goes quiet and stands at their piers respectfully and after we pray together and the mass continues.

You can have the full baptism where you submerge in water when you are older but its more for people who just wish to get the full experience and most won't do this.

Our baptisms are basically an official welcome into the church but since we are babies when it happens, it is expected and normal for children's beliefs to change over time.

There is also specific moments in the mass dedicated to publically teaching the children using stories from the bible while they gather in the front at the stairs. They get to ask and answer questions throughout. Then we do a group prayer where the priests goes around asking the children what we should pray for today (the children raise their hands if they want to participate). A lot of children choose to pray for the less fortunate, the sick, the elderly or even their own family and friends if they acknowledge they may need extra help from God. There is also a public choir where children gather at the front and sing church songs with live guitar and singers leading the way. There are microphones at different heights and satin pillows for the children to sit on while the rest of the church sits and they can leave/join at any time. Children know to let the shorter ones up front so they can be seen.

I'm no longer part of any religion for personal reasons but I always found that part cute. As a child I loved church. It was when I got older I realised how problematic some aspects are.

As a Christian myself, I don’t heaps like the idea of baptising children because it’s not the child making the decision it’s always a parent or adult in their life. Being a Christian is something the person themselves should be consciously committing to. I feel like being baptised before you’re able to make that commitment just puts unnecessary pressure and guilt on you to make sure you make the decision in life rather than letting yourself calmly explore it.

I got bathtised when I was an infant, there was no dunking, just putting a little watter on my head. I only know this from one photo.
