Shoojit Sircar is a curious case.
He somewhat belongs to the Leftist/ Woke gharana in terms of outward aesthetic but inherently, he's a rooted, cultural person.
If you watch Piku (2015) carefully, it portrays a brilliant father-daughter relationship with 'potty' at the centre, as is the case in a lot of old-school Bengali households. Even in Piku, Sircar has forced in Woke themes such as non-marital sex, "my daughter is not a virgin", and all, but simultaneously, it also has Bhaskar Banerjee not willing to sell off his ancestral house because it's named after his late mother, and it has Piku telling Rana the importance of taking care of one's old parents, no matter how difficult it is.
"Mujhse shadi karni hai toh mere 80 saal ke bacche ko adopt karna padhega, karoge?"
The scene where both of them quietly sit at a riverside ghat with the sitar playing in the background is beautiful too.
And of course there's this focus on Sri Ramakrishna and Sarada Ma's photographs on the wall.
Even Gulabo Sitabo (2020) had this theme of two shrewd but helpless rogues trying to cling on to their old house.

All in all, I don't hate Shoojit Sircar. He still has the very bygone Bangali bhadralok culture in him. Just that.. if he would have been bereft of his liberalistic obligations, it'd have been better.

He reminds of a Woke-ish version of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee, with a forced tendency to become Satyajit Ray.

I agree with your analysis of the movie. The first part felt very interesting and captivating. But the second half was confusing and lacked any vision. Log marte ja rahe hai, aur surgeries, second opinions, etc etc. anyways I still enjoyed the movie as a whole and I think people should watch it.

Based on objective reality, Ayurveda has both beneficial applications and pseudoscientific claims. Humans are living with better health today because of modern medicine. If someone claims that Gaumutra had a contribution to their cancer treatment, it's not only a false claim but also very dangerous to society. Have faith, but doesn't overextend it to the point where it denies our scientific understanding.

See the problem with this review is not that he spoke ill of the movie, but somehow he diverted away and went on to speak about the importance of Ayurveda.
My sincere question is, did the movie ever come up with the topic of Ayurveda vs Alopathy? I dont think so.
The severe medical procedures was actually presented as a dark comedy only to emphasize how people undergoing such grave issues slowly mould their thoughts as if it is an unfortunate part of their life. For a third of the video, why will i tune into hearing a Congressi speak about his experiences, about your personal experience as well (which as a matter of fact, has been repeated n number of times, i really feel you atp are just obnoxious that everyday some new peeps would head into your video and they might miss that you were part of an ashram).
When you say Film Review, pls let it be a 'Film' review, and if you try to say you're exploring the philosophy behind, i say no you did not.
