I’d seen a video before where I think you were trying to cook, and you mentioned that you didn’t because you actually had a fear of food poisoning and getting sick - everyone in the comments seems to be suggesting techniques to improve your cooking, and I’d like to suggest that you look into why (mentally) you’re so anxious to cook. I have emetophobia, which is bloody awful, but it’s a phobia of sickness, and I too get very worried about food preparation and have thrown away so much food fearing food poisoning. So while you think it’s a lack of skill, it’s worth considering that you’re put off prepping your own food for other reasons. Hope this isn’t too invasive to suggest - though I know sometimes we just have no bloody idea about these things, and a friendly nudge could make all the difference.

My best advice for new or timid cooks is to read the entire recipe (including instructions) through at least once if not twice before starting. This will save some mistakes later on and will help you be a bit more mindful of the steps as you work through the recipe. Don't panic! Cooking is fun and usually delicious!!

Best way to start 2018 is with a Lydia vlog! I've thankfully just got over having the same cold before new year, so hopefully by week 3 you should see it disappearing slowly and then by week 4 it should hopefully be fully gone! It's definitely the longest cold I've had, so hang in there haha happy new year to you & Ali! x

i went from wearing make up every single day for years to now only wearing make up once or twice a month! My skin is so clear and radiant because of it. I also have found that because I wear make up so infrequently, I actually really love taking the time to get ready and do my hair and make up. It's not a chore anymore.

What a fab way to start 2018 - with a Lydia Vlog.
I can cook pretty well, but I do sympathise with you. Start small, like Carrie advised. Do you have a slow cooker? I love slow cooker meals, cause I can feed the whole family, toddler included and its super easy to do. Trial and error is key - every meal won't be perfect but don't lose hope!

The padlock is very sweet. Find a place at your new home to lock it. Locks on bridges are harmful, and they periodically cut them off.

One of the cookbooks that I absolutely love is Nigella Lawson's "How to be a Domestic Goddess". The recipes have relatively simple ingredients and the directions aren't super complicated, but the dishes that I've made have all tasted really, really good. I don't know that it's low on meat and dairy recipes though. I imagine most of her other cookbooks are also really good so maybe she has one that's focused on more healthy recipes because I honestly have never paid attention to that aspect.

Lydia, please don't apologise when not wearing makeup or for "looking like this". For starters you're gorgeous and also it's life you don't need to be made up all the time … I really enjoy the 'everyday vlogs'. Carrie's right start slow with the cooking so not to overwhelm yourself. I really like Donna Hay (Australian) cookbooks, simple easy to follow tasty recipes.

I completely love the idea of trying to be more experimental with cooking and food prep, and can’t understand why anybody would want to ridicule you for that - we’ve all got things we want to improve on for the new year and sometimes a person’s lifestyle just doesn’t accommodate for extravagant and imaginative recipes on a daily basis. I also want to try and up my cooking game this year, so I’ll be following your progress as check-ins for my own ☺️
Also - bloody love Carrie. I’ve got a best friend who I frequently ring with very mundane requests/questions when I’ve got no idea what I’m doing. They’re the best!
