I hate how easy everyone acts about wheelies.
They are f***ing hard. And scary.
Yours was one of the first videos that appealed to me when you spliced in that Rocky clip.
I was really put down by my lack of progress because of how afraid I was.
I slipped off once learning to wheelie my dirt bike and managed to rip my ACL once already.
You inspired me to keep at it and try harder.
I’m no Stunt Master General but I definitely made a lot of progress fast.
I really hate to be that guy to try to offer advice when I’m still learning but I found the farther back I sit, the closer to having my butt over my rear axle the easier it is to lift and maintain balance. Also try the double blip method where you give a little gas then when you let off and the forks compress you give’r sh*t on that second blip.

Be careful. I went over my handlebars learning stoppies. Went down pretty hard.

Learning rolling burnouts will shoot electricity through your body. I can only do little baby squeakers. But. There’s a patch of rubber there on the pavement. And I put it there. And then my balls start to tingle

Awesome bro. Keep at it!
You will probably have countless people telling you what you should do! What works for them may not work for you! Do whatever you think is best! Because nobody else is gonna show up and help if crash!

My suggestion to you is get a crf50 and master the wheelie on it. Then the big bikes become so much easier to wheelie

You'll get there one day mate, but don't be angry when you flip, it happens to the best of us

Develop muscle memory using the rear brake to bring the front wheel down. When you inevitably go to loop it you'll be so glad to have the rear brake reflex

I know everyone has their own opinion with getting onto one wheel, but I would highly recommend learning to clutch up before just trying power wheelies. Once you learn to clutch up you can wheelie any bike, even lower CC (which I recommend learning on anyways). But good on you for picking a nice empty lot 👍🏻 keep at it!

My suggestion wear a little more than a t-shirt practicing wheelies on tarmac at your level.
It will save needing skin graft later on when you get closer to your goal 😂
For the record wheelies were very hard to learn for me because it feels like your wheel is 10ft high when it's only a couple inches up,
But keep going only way to learn is practice 👍

Try revving to high rpm’s and pooping the clutch while pulling up 👍

Don’t be afraid to let her get open a little, just make sure u create the habit of always covering back brake. Hope all is well!

Keep doing it like this and you will get there. At some point you just get it up further and keep it there, then there will be the struggle for balance point. But whoever keeps trying will win in the end

I’m trying to learn wheelies on my husky 701 right now, scared to clutch kick the bike as I feel like it’s gonna fly away from me, if I don’t use the clutch I end up going so fast before it’s up that the speed scares me, ik I need to pop clutch to get it up but idk how much throttle to use and not make my bike to a flip

Did you disable TC or just set it to map 2? Wildly curious before I start trying with mine

In case you didn't know, make sure traction control is off, as it will electronically spoil the wheelie party.

That is a great place to practice. I practice after hours in my local HS parking lot, last time a few random students got a kick out of it. I also tend to crank one as I come into the neighborhood if the little kid down the street on his electric toy motorcycle is around. He loves it and ya gotta encourage the future generations!

For anyone who hasn't ridden these bikes, the heavy engine is low and forward, which puts a lot of weight on the front end. This makes for accurate steering but also makes picking up the front end a lot more commitment than the '83 XL600, I had way back when, which had far less power but a light front end so it could wheelie for days. The old XL's were well known for this.

I was never a clutch up wheelie guy, much preferring to chop the throttle to compress the forks a tad, then coming in with it to lift the front end on rebound. It helps to visualize the lifting point ahead and it is not beneath me to cheat and use a bump in the road. "Speed bumps" are great fun of course on these bikes.

The rider is scooched back on the seat, which is good. Once past the initial heavy front lift, the bike balances nicely once the wheel is farther up. I have a '23 701 Enduro which has the quickshifter. The quickshifter is God's gift to long wheelies, I've got the 2nd into 3rd gear wheelie situation pretty dialed. Ya don't need to reach the balance point - a bit shy of it will suffice, these bike have plenty of power ;)

As you progress, make sure to cover the rear brake. The 690 (at least the later ones with ride by wire throttle) doesn't have a lot of engine braking to save you if it gets steep and out of hand. The thing is, it feels a lot steeper on the bike than it really is. Stay in it at the "getting there" stage and ya got it.

Once one gets the hang of it, the stupid really sets in. I had to sell my XL600 back then in favor of a CR250, as I rode street wheelies everywhere on it, a favorite was ripping one after making a right at an intersection. The cops wanted to chat about my riding on several occasions, and I sold it before they caught up with and beat the shit out of me.

Fast forward to current times, I sold my sport bike to get the Husky 701 Enduro to play on, and while my 701 won't do 170, I suspect it might get me into more trouble than the old 1000 ever did - LOL

Sin protección en los codos la lección puede ser irrecuperable....😮

It's easier to pop wheelie on higher cc motorcycle.

well dang i figured a 690 would be able to do a power up. try clutching up. its a little freaky at first but you get used to it try it in like 3rd at about 20ish

I would practice in the grass with a back protector and some more gear once you get over the fear of falling you will be comfortable popping a wheelie.

Yo what exhaust is this? Gives me eargasm lmao

Wear a back protector my guy! I get not wanting to be full power ranger but don’t gamble with your back if you know you’re going to be practicing wheelies.

Damn thats a nice bike to practice wheelies on lol
And you're either pretty confident or unaware that you won't take a tumble while practicing wheelies. Put on some gear so your skin doesn't get shredded
