I mean to be fair it is new in the sense that instead of gaining powers then mutating he mutates first, but there was already a man spider movie called spider it's pretty much like the fly guy who is a security guard at a genetics lab sees a wants to be a hero and injects himself with a syrum. It's called Esther vs. The Spider. So the concept isn't new before that was the fly. But to me the scarious version of Peter was spider carnage where the carnage symbiote to over Peter..
