My mate had one. It dumped all its oil over the road at a junction one night. JLR actually bought it back off him.

Got to be one of the crappiest diesel engines ever made in recent years. But image counts more then anything so people buy these things

Landrover took the TD4 engine.. genuinely good for 200k miles. questionable because of the timing belt… and all they had to do was put a chain on it… and they somehow made it worse in every way.
Bearings. Cam shafts… chain.. oil pickup. Head gaskets… they just Penny pinched until that cheap chunk of cast transit engine was useless for anything. Wouldn’t even put it in a hatchback

I heard that even the new range rovers (not sure about defenders) have ingenium engines in them too.
Albeit bigger cylinder capacity but what are your thoughts on these?

I know typically that the 2.0s are utter shite

Isn't it their ridiculous oil change intervals that kill these engines? I heard they push for 20 000 miles or two years.

The Ingenium engine is more efficient/economical but they are so unreliable. And we own one lol. 😂
