Just as everyone is an actor, everyone is in sales. Deny this at your own peril. I absolutely love the title of this book. It's the first sales book I've come across written specifically for the new economy.

There has been so much noise generated by social media advocates who think selling is a thing of the past, as if the art of persuasion goes away just because we have the internet. The fact that we're so connected only increases the need for us to be proficient in sales.

On the other hand. As someone in sales I agreed with the part about moving away from the hard sale and into making a relationship with your customers. You lose a sale today but make it up and then some over the next 15 years

Because everyone is specialized in something different, they all have something different to sell to the others.

I like the philosophy of everyone selling today who has an FB page. Social networking is selling yourself. Impressed with the book club as well.

Well i would say, it´s presenting the book. I haven´t read it, because I am not sure if there´s a german translation, I´m not even sure if I would read it.
But by watching this video, and listening to both positive and critical views, it gives you a glimpse of what kind of ideas are coming up these days all around the world.
This video got me thinking about how I and people around me interact with our surrounding.
And i´m sure that´s what thnkr´s trying to do, get you thinking!

He has a point. We live in a World where consumers are more informed and will find better prices online. There are other scenarios. . .and even when these do not relate to sales per se, there is a buy in that is needed. When a principal is conveying a message to his teachers that a new curriculum needs to be established, there needs to be a buy in from the teachers. Everyone has to be on board.

great example man. i totally agree.
i think we live in a world of relationships, and its impossible to live w/out those, but the word "selling" reduces those relationships

Exactly. Sales is a subset of trying to convey an idea. Namely "you need this item". Yes they are related but getting your ideas across is the more universal and more important thing which is why it has and deserves primacy over sales.

I started selling what I called "with empathy" a couple years ago, because I was also disgusted by the old school style of sales. Whether or not you agree that everyone is a salesperson or not I don't think is necessarily important. However, the bits about attunement, buoyancy, and clarity are very true. In a business sales perspective they help develop customer loyalty by forging relationships between the associate and the community.

If you are making money you are selling your abilities/services/goods.

So, selling is your role in society as well.

The good thing is I actually want to buy his book and read it, understand it, it could be useful later one when you. yourself, are moving up the society, the ladder and moving the hearts of people as you journey.

It basically helps you understand the human mind design and how powerful words and articulating words can be.
I haven't been tricked into buying it, I just have come across something I will find very useful in the years to come.

Purchase it, with your own will and healthy mind

I'd go so far as to say that it's not ironic, it's fitting and internally consistent with the message. Would we expect anything else from a social/life philosophy such as this?

I suppose if you redefine 'sales' as 'any collaboration between human beings' in an increasingly connected world... yeah... I guess we are all in sales.

My guess is this book discusses an important aspect of how our world is changing that couldn't quite be nailed down in seven minutes.

It only cheapens it because of the cultural context "sales" comes in...our society tends to see it and capitalism as sleazy and soulless, but really you can be reductionist with pretty much any action or concept and cheapen it. Pink is trying to elevate the concept of sales to a higher function

On the E test I think there is a huge diffidence in if you read it and if you are asked to so it. If i read such instructions the book will have no perspective as it will not view me (or any thing for that matter) and thus i dew it from the only perspective that exists, mine.

If a person asked it you just infer "draw an E (what I can read)" perhaps it is because I am dyslexic but right after he said it it is what I thought
