Byron Songs
1) There is a Pleasure in the Pathless Woods
2) She Walks in Beauty

(Live excerpts with score)

-----------------------------------------
In my Byron Songs, I hope to realize in music the solitude and majesty, the beauty and veneration the two poems suggest. Both movements begin with the solo guitar to establish the tone and mood.

The first text speaks of the grandeur of nature and the emotional satisfaction that can be derived from being alone in the natural world---“far from the madding crowd.”

The second movement is a setting of what is likely Byron’s most famous poem: “She Walks in Beauty like the Night…”
It features a very striking mixture of nocturnal imagery and reverential thoughts on a woman loved.

Shared this with my class of Byron-crazed undergrads.
