I get asked on occasion (as well as ask myself when I realize how dumb I am during my design process) why bother having game designer's or being a game designer instead of just using programmers or being a programmer?
Like it seems a game designer is just an "Ideas Middle-Manager". Especially when looking back in time (say the 1990s) everyone came from a programming or software engineer background.
