Why You Should NEVER Buy A Tudor!

In today's video I talk about why I personally would never buy a Tudor. In my mind, Tudor is just the more affordable Rolex without the same prestige and heritage. I don't think it is ever worth it to get a Tudor because you can save up or spend more to get a Rolex. Why get a Black Bay 36 or Black Bay 58 when you can get a Rolex Explorer or Rolex Submariner? If you like the style of Tudor over Rolex then of course, get a Tudor. They do things different stylistically from Rolex having models such as the Heritage Chronograph and North Flag. I see Tudor as Hyundai and Rolex as Lexus. Why would I ever want the lesser item. I am not trying to be a "Watch Snob," I simply am stating the truth that Rolex comes with more prestige and thus should be purchased over Tudor, all things being equal.

I see what you are saying but I personally am not into watches for name recognition. But for anyone who disliked the video, the point went over their head, you are obviously not hating, its just your opinion. Great video as always, Jack!

Says the guy wearing Abercrombie. The 2000s called, they want their brand back.

What's crazy is a couple years ago I felt the same way and went into my AD to buy a Rolex Datejust because that's what I thought I wanted (did the usual youtube binge watching research) and went in, tried on the watch, and it just felt uncomfortable. I even told the saleswoman that it didn't feel right. I was devastated because I thought I knew exactly what I wanted and my body felt like it was rejecting the timepiece. She asked if I wanted to try on a Tudor Black Bay 36 and my immediate thought was "Uh the poor man's Rolex" but I entertained the idea regardless. She put it on my wrist and wouldn't you know my eyes starting tearing up. The snowflake hands that I had hated previous were for some reason speaking to me now and the Datejust that I fantasized about stayed in that case and the Tudor got a warm wrist to sleep on.

It's funny to me because now when I go into my AD I walk right past the Rolexs and go straight for the Tudors. There is not one modern Rolex that appeals to me (I do want a bubble back 🤷🏼‍♂️) but every Tudor I now aspire to own. Just two days ago I went and picked up a Tudor GMT for a "getting out the Navy" present to myself (Tudor also has a history with the Navy which is another plus) and haven't stopped looking at it since.

So in regard to your opinion about Tudor, I don't think anyone should settle for something that they don't want for anything, but I don't think you're settling if you buy a Tudor. Especially since I almost settled for buying a Rolex

This is like saying why buy a Volkswagen when you can save up and buy an Audi

It’s funny because I got a call from my ad that they had an explorer for me. Had never heard of Tudor until I walked in. The 41 caught my eye and I ended up buying both. Rarely wear my explorer and now own a pelagos as well. Now I don’t wear my hulk much at all. I feel confident really using my tudors where I never have with my rolexes. So instead of wearing my seiko all day and switching to the Rolex before I go out I just find myself keeping the Tudor on all day.

I have Rolex and Tudor. I enjoy the Tudor more for a number of reasons. I feel too many go to Rolex just bc of the name.

Personally, I bought my Tudor because I wanted a Tudor. At the time, money was not the issue, I'm just not big on Rolex. They make some beautiful stuff but none of their models really appeal to me all that much. I think a good rule is to buy what truly makes YOU happy, be it a Rolex or a Casio for that matter.

You are missing out. Tudor is the brand that grew 11 percent last year.

What I like about Tudor is similar to what I like about Grand Seiko, or Montblancs: they are a good mix of quality and price, not a lot of people know the brand and it actually does not get attention from the average person (in a negative/show-off way).

ok so let's change the video title to "don't buy Tudor when indeed you're thinking of a Rolex"

If you have rolex, grand seiko, Girard-Perregaux, longines, raymond, etc then its a great addition. Everyone that owns a rolex always thinks about buying a tudor. They look great and have their own style.

So many people get swept away with name “Rolex” it’s all about image unfortunately.

Great video! I really appreciate your honest and balanced perspective. I personally love Tudor, I like their original black bay line (with the dive bezel) and the heritage chrono.. I agree with what you say however, I think you make a really good point, it’s easy to fall into the trap of buying a watch just to add status to the collection.. If you want a Tudor go ahead and buy one I think they’re great. However if you really want a Rolex deep down, put that money aside.. if you continue to put some money aside it won’t be too long until you can afford an entry-level Rolex :-)
Thanks for the video! (Shout out to Grand Seiko as well btw! Beautifully made watches!!)

Wow this video is the most absurd video I have watched for a while in youtube.
I have arrived here searching "tudor 2021" to watch a video about predictions, and I saw your video in first page.
The problem here is that you only have money for one watch, so it's normal that you have this mind, I can only have one, I am going for the Rolex.
In my collection I have an Omega Speedmaster, Rolex GMT Master II, Explorer and Daytona, and much more. But you know what? The BB58 was a purchase that I will remember for life. What a brilliant piece. Better quality than my 2010 gmt master II.
I have been collecting watched for years and your video is pointless. You should change the title of the video for "why you should not buy a tudor if you only have 3000 USD".
It seems that you only want a rolex because the brand and you know nothing about watches... And it seems too that you are saying that people that buys tudor is because they don't have money for a rolex... Come on...
On the other hand, do you know how difficult is to buy a rolex today? I have friends who have been waiting for a daytona for 4 years in a list... You are taking without taking into account that buying a rolex is very difficult nowadays.

I've always wanted a Tudor Black Bay Chrono S&G, but I feel forced to save for a boring Rolex so I can get recognition.

I get your point but on the same token Tudor is currently what Rolex used to be. A true tool watch to be used and reasonably priced. Rolex is now officially strictly a luxury brand, which is great! But in my opinion a Rolex enthusiast that truly admires where Rolex came from would probably connect more with Tudor. I own two tutor watches and three Rolex watches and they all have their place in my collection. Like I said in my opinion they are definitely two completely different beasts. Like you said The reason most people nowadays buy a Rolex is just for status and prestige.

Problem with a lot of Tudor models is not that they’re Tudor, but that they look like Rolex knock offs: sub dial, Pepsi bezel etc etc. I’d rather buy a citizen or seiko for 200 bucks that has the same look than 3 -5 grands

I’m also looking at entries on a first luxury watch, and at the end of the day I don’t think I will pay up for a tudor, I agree just getting an explorer makes so much more sense.

The tudor style is sick tho. That BB 36 is a winner

Tudor was started to be a more affordable alternative to Rolex by using off the shelve movement fitted into Rolex case but that is no longer the case as Tudor now have in-house movement. I have a 2018 Rolex Black GMTc, a 2019 Air King and Omegas but now looking at getting a Tudor Pelagos as no Rolex have a titanium case and the movement is argulably better than my 2 Rolex... its a much better value for money and also I don't wanna pay over list or play the AD game to get the new 41 Sub or SD43.
