What an incredible little "engine"! The way that you've set the timing to act a a 4 cycle is fantastic, and the way that you've wired it up to be able to add or subtract "cylinders" is perfect. Keep up the GREAT work 👍

Thank you. You are on your way already - just study many of the models posted here, and you will get ideas on how they work. Some are easy to figure out. Then try building some simple models and you will grow to success. I will try to help you.

Each cylinder is wired and switched seperately. After the MAIN switch the first of the four switches "fired up" cylinder #1; the second switch "fired up" cylinder #2, etc. Each time an additional cylinder came into play the additional force of another cylinder fireing increased the torque and RPMs till all 4 cylinders were powered for maximun speed and torque. Then the rheostat, which is in the main line, can also regulate the current delivered to any of the activated cylinders.

Thanks for your interest. Perhaps some day they will employ solenoid engines to power cars and other things. For now they seem to be aesthetic curiosities.

I should add that the aparatus on top of each cylinder designed to resemble intake and exhaust ports actually serve as heatsinks and help disipate heat.

Thank you for your observation. The camera was hand held (manually ?) in a relativly stable and steady position while the engine was positioned on a turn table. Is there a better way to achieve full revelation?

At max RPM it could be geared down to produce enough torque, but it is very heavy with battery pack and all the hardware. Stationary function is best.

Thanks for viewing. Like all engines, it works best when all moving parts are lubricated (lightly). Since it is a 4 stroke, it does 'nt seem to get too hot. Apparently the non firing stroke (the exhaust stroke) provides a cooling effect. I'v not run it long enough for it to heat up much. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks for viewing and for your interest. This engine is typically "self starting" because the crankshaft is constructed so that the throws are 90 degrees out of phase - at any setting atleast one cylinder is activated. But for this video all cylinders were turned off, and the engine started up when cylinder 1 was activated because the flywheel was set to a rotation point where the cylinder was at its "firing" point, and when its switch was thrown it went into motion under its own power.
