If "the common operation of the Spirit" are not regeneration nor sanctification, what are they ?

Head IV

The blessings which are effectually conveyed by these means to the Lord’s elect, or chosen ones. Mat. 22:14. Many are called, but few are chosen.
I. By these outward ordinances, as our Lord makes the reprobate inexcusable, so, by the power of his Spirit, he applies unto the elect, effectually, all saving graces purchased to them in the covenant of redemption, and maketh a change in their persons.

The Sum of Saving Knowledge

NOWHERE does the Edinburgh Edition of the Westminster Standards even remotely suggest that the reprobate partake of the Holy Spirit through the outward means of the sacraments.

"Common operations of the Spirit" is NOT the same thing as having the Spirit. Secondly, Wilson is cleverly dodging the actual question. IF baptism gives someone the Spirit they must be regenerated by baptism. However an unregenerate person receives NOTHING from baptism, including the Spirit. The common operations of the Spirit therefore conveys nothing other than a providential guiding of that reprobate person to the decreed goal of perdition in everlasting punishment.

An unconverted person is not in the covenant because the covenant of grace is invisible and is given only to the elect. The outward signs are only SIGNS of the actual and EFFECTUAL covenant of grace made only with the elect.
