I just drove 2 hours with my 23 and 26 year old sons one minute we're listening to Jason Mraz singing at the top of our lungs, the next minute we're singing this song singing at the top of our lungs. This music is so needed so intelligent so gripping and so awake

Ah! Wake up (Wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little makeup (A little bit)
Hide the scars to fade away the (Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup)
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go, create another fable, you wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup, you wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup, you wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table? You wanted to

I don't think you trust
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

Father, father, father, father
Father, father, father, father
Father, into your hands I commend my spirit
Father, into your hands
Why have you forsaken me?
In your eyes, forsaken me?
In your thoughts, forsaken me?
In your heart, forsaken me? Oh

Trust in my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

I don't think rock and roll was ready for System of a Down, and they had a 50-year build up for it.

I was today years old when I found out this song originally called "Suicide" and it was censored and they "chopped " the "cide" out of "suicide".

And that's why that start the song saying "roll suicide".

It sounds like you made every instrument louder but I can still hear each one clearly, amazing work.

At the age of seven I already knew how to sing this complete song, being Brazilian without a language course. Good memories and much more every time I come back here to listen

2:45 I really love the change up Serj did. Instead of the starting with the change of tone "IN your-" he left it clean then really dug in on "-forsaKENNn-" then let it all ride out. Best build up from him in my opinion.

The brush and makeup part could be to hide the bruises of domestic battery out of fear and embarrassment. Then the part about leaving the keys on the table could be symbolism for giving up on your life as your keys are means to accessing everything you own. And then the line about 'creating another fable' refers to people fabricating stories to hide the truth to keep face. The 'you wanted to' part suggests the abuse is their fault as seen through the eyes of a violent partner as 'they provoked them'. The self righteous suicide part could mean the abused partner actually believes it is their fault after years of abuse. The lyrics about 'why have you forsaken me?' refers to the person's confusion at why they are in an abusive relationship when they are a 'good' person themselves. The 'when angels deserve to die' lyrics highlights the true innocence of these people.

I feel like, sometimes, I'm in a state only this song resonates with. A mix of panic, guilt, self-loathing, loathing in general, a fear of the future that feels overwhelming.

I remember the moment my older cousin had me listen to this for the first time. Incredible then and still just as incredible.
