Wandering Hokkaido's famous red light District on a cold winter's night - 4K HDR

During the unbearable heat of summer in Japan, I often reminisce about cold winter nights, wandering the streets of snowy Hokkaido. In downtown Sapporo, there is a district called Susukino. Here there are many lively eateries, adult entertainment, and shopping. In this walk we explore some of the popular areas, as the city prepares for the annual snow festival every February.

Did not notice much that I would call related to being a "red light" district. But cool.

From the blocks of ice in the street around the 6:30 mark it looks like the city is preparing for the Sapporo Snow Festival. If you like the cold, there are some amazing snow and ice sculptures and other events around the city in early February.

Around the 7:40 mark, that's the famous Sapporo Ramen Alley. One of the ramen shops is the one that was featured on the late Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations show. When I was there a couple of years ago, the shop had a sign in the window advertising that fact.

Sapporo also has a very long underground passageway with restaurants and shops between Sapporo station and Odori station. It doesn't make it to Susukino station which is the next station, but it's warm and dry.
