Every L series guitar is made in a small factory in Japan by skilled luthiers. From design to manufacture, Yamaha's top craftsmen carry a tradition of exacting standards and experience; there really is no substitute for skilled hands and eyes. The sound starts with the careful selection of tone woods by Mr Shizuo Suzuki.

there's a big difference between products made in Taiwan and China mainland. BTW, Mac's Iphones and MacBooks are also made in China, ensambled in US. I have this guitar and it sounds great!

@GuitarVlog Are you postive about that? I heard that all the way down to the LL6 is made in Japan. All LL series are made in the little shop in Japan.

@GuitarVlog I bow to your expertise and you are correct. The LL6 is indeed made in China. A fine guitar still, I like it but will be looking into am ll16 and above.

Played a new LL16R today.. Also played Drednaults from Martin and Taylor in the less than $1k range. The Yamaha is the better guitar all around and about $200 less..

If only Yamaha would use bolt on necks like Taylor, I'd be more inclined to purchase one. I own an older Yamaha FG 380 II and it has a distorted fretboard thanks to the neck being glued onto the body.

This hasnt got the ARE treatment on the top nor the 5 ply neck, the neck on this model is only 3 ply.

Thanks for that but, with respect, you spent two minutes talking about the thing and a scant 10 seconds playing it! I own the LL16-it's a fantastic instrument- and, frankly, it sounds a whole lot better if you play it!

Can you possibly tell me if these guitars take a while to 'open up'? (some say that's a myth, acoustic tops opening up over time and after much playing, but some swear by it). I just bought one, and I also have $200 Epiphone DR-100 (laminate, obviously) that actually projects much better! I am perplexed at this (???)

No, this one (LL6) is made in Taiwan.

Yeah all well and good. A.R.E. then there's no room for improvement after that. Guitars must age naturally. Yeah all well and good. Solid wood. LL 6 has laminate back and sides. Much better. Durable and on stage less prone to feed back. You read what Glen Frey had to say about that. Stop the push for solid wood or at least give the pros to laminate.
