He got out but decided to keep himself high profile. He may not have much real life experience but just plain common sense says don't court the press if you want out and want a normal life. He means he's not out in his head, but he just needs to live a quiet simple life somewhere.

Harry knows high for sure. He looks panicked at even the mere mention of jumping from the gravy train when it's really as simple as relinquishing Royal titles and residences and steering clear of Royal events. Perhaps Pa & Parliament will show his denying smugness here he really CAN get out.

Also, in his outlining exit options, he specifies loss of security as one of the conditions of the selected option so his lack of forethought and planning is hardly being 'left high & dry' especially as his Dad gave him a healthy severance and privately footed his security bill for a bit along with Canada.. As no one was bothering them anyway, they didn't even need security before waxing on about killing Taliban as chesspieces in said book.
