My dad taught me this when I was younger. He said, "Knots and bolts are stubborn like women but you give them a couple smacks they'll do what you want." 🤣🤣

Put the knot on piece of wood and use a rubber mallet. Easier on the strap

That method was created from pure frustration. Whoever figured this out did exactly what you said. They tried picks and screw drivers and everything you could think of and after a couple of hours, they were like "I'm just gonna hit it with a hammer cuz its pissing me off" and then this

Try twisting the strand really tight and then push it against the knot. Works like a charm and doesn't stress the strand at all. Thank me later ❤

Hammering heats it up slightly and breaks the friction bond allowing you to untie it's not that the knot is tight, it's that you arnt using enough force to overcome the forces of friction inside of it....

I personally have never had a knot in my straps..
I work with ropes..
so I manage them well..
Respect your tools 😜

Something else, is you can twist it to the right as tight as you can, on the strand that you need to push into the knot to loosen it, and then push it. Making the strand hard like the knot helps a lot to breaking it loose.

Good to know! Can’t say I’ve ever put a knot in a strap (I use them properly and put them away properly) but I’ve seen loads of knots in other people’s straps when I go to use them 😂

I have a pocketknife that I specifically bought because it has a "Marlin spike" for loosening knots. It's a sailor's knife.

That knots been in there since she was new! 😂😂😂😂

This was 10 or so years ago. My dumb ass tried using a flat head to loosen a knot like that on a strap, well it slipped and I had it pointed toward my other thumb. The flat head went right under the nail and came out the other side. I freaked out and went to my wife. Who got super freaked out and told me she’ll drive me to the emergency. I told her ok. Well when I was running to the car I slipped on the floor because I had blood on my feet. Knowing my luck I fell in a way my body reactively reached out to catch the fall with the hand with flat head embedded between my thumb nail. When I realized what happened and looked at the thumb the nail wasn’t there anymore. 😆😆. It popped it right off somehow.
Jokingly I told my wife I did that shit on purpose to save on medical bills. 😆😆
Surprisingly it didn’t hurt that much after the nail popped off. Felt it way more when the screw driver was wedged in there.

I always twist one side of the knot to make it stiff then push it towards the knot and it usually comes undone.

LIFESAVER!!! I deal with this daily! Forklift operators tie the seatbelts and I’m obligated to untie them routinely.
Carelock
Grab one side by the knot and twist it as much and as hard as you can and push it into the knot. Always works for me although I haven’t tried this on many straps so it’s possible it won’t work but I’m thinking it will. I’m too lazy to test it myself lol.

I'd worry about the strands integrity after the hammering. I know the knot is a weak spot for sure, but you know that's there

I get it wet first to help prevent damaging the material and it also helps loosen it better.

fids are the tools to undo knots. Commerical fishing for years and one of the first things you learn. The second part is learning the knots, then you know how to undo them. Dont need a gimmick.

Listen all you have to do is twist one end until it gets to where it starts bending from twisting so much, then grab the twisted part near the knot then push it through. Sometimes it needs some work but it will get any knot out

If you shoe lace is knotted up you can use your other shoe to step on it a bit. Works the same way

This also works with metal. As a used to be fabricator say you can’t get all the bolt holes lined up on panel. Hammer fist it a few times and it’ll actually stretch a little lol
