IB has denied moving my assets from EU to Canada, despite my legal residence being Canadian now. They asked me to sell all the assets first, and only then change the country. Turned out that I’m sanctioned based on my country of citizenship, regardless of that I haven’t been there 8 years and have no financial flow from/to. Now asset-wise I’m in a very weird limbo of having to sell and pay tax for the “profits” I never intended to cash out. Just heads up to anyone in the same situation. Sell before or shortly after in such case. Don’t wait months and years like I did.

Hi mate, I am also based in Qatar (close to you), I always wanted to change the country of residence away from EEA (under IBKR) but always push it forward in time since I am a long investor like you 90/10 (VUSA/IBTS). My question would be....If you change the country of residence you will automatically benefit of the double-taxation avoidance agreement between Ireland and Qatar/UAE (0, 00% off dividends & Interest), or you need to change the status also for the option under Account Setting "Irish Interest Income Withholding Status"?

I am a US citizen residing in the Philippines, with an IBKR account, they will only send a debit card to a US address so the only means to transfer funds is by wiring it to another institution. After two years of being a customer this is the only downside that I have had.

Amazing, so now when u sell the stocks or the positions that u may already have bought and built when u were in lithuania or in german, u won't pay taxes on them now ? Because u r legally taxed in UAE now?
