The Clash - Wrong 'Em Boyo - Cover

Показать описание
Wrong 'Em Boyo! What a fine Clash tune. Raw. Unschooled. Instinctive. It's a fine example of what Punk Rock was all about: doing it yourself. Screw the string section, give me a Hammond organ and some saxophones any day. THAT's what this song is about. Their London Calling album is I think the best work they ever did. And this song is a cover of the Rulers original. It apparently was a song in the jukebox where they rehearsed.
These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.
Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
Well, you have to choose what you are going to play really carefully here. The song is sort of a Ska, sort of an R&B, and overall a bit weird. The chords sometimes don't change where you expect. It has a false beginning. But most importantly, this version of the song features Paul Simonon's Dub-influenced Bass. It's sooo fat. So, put all that together and you have to make room for that Bass line to stand out. It's the most important thing after the vocal.
So, this seems like the right balance to me.
