A year of trains in the Metro Tunnel

It’s been a year since the first two test trains entered the #metrotunnel

Since then, our crews have finished building two of the five new Metro Tunnel stations and clocked up thousands of hours of testing the new trains and systems.

About the Metro Tunnel Project

The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south east, with bigger and more modern trains, and 5 new stations. With testing now underway, the Metro Tunnel will open in 2025.

So why isn't the tunnel opened already?

To all those that are looking forward to riding in the Metro Rail Tunnel will be disappointed, when they realise that they won't be going through, South Yarra, Richmond, Parliament, Melbourne Central, Flagstaff, South Kensington, and North Melbourne, and also Southern Cross and Flinders Street anymore.
The Metro Rail Tunnel is a waste of time and money, there are other things that the money could have been spent on, such as health, education, tackling the housing crisis, mending roads. The tunnel has been a budget blowout it should have been cancelled just like the Commonwealth Games were when it was realised that they were a budget blowout, the games would have bought much needed revenue into the state.
