I think it’s hilarious the James Cameron is apparently so annoyed with the “room for both of them on the door” controversy, that he conducted a whole damn experiment and made a documentary just to prove he was right 😂

If you didn't know about the titanic, this could easily be from a Saw movie

Its literally in the movie that the doors buoyancy isnt enough for both of them. Still both could have survived if the girl didn't unnecessarily jump out of the rescue boat.

"Thus there was no way they could both survive. The test subjects' sacrifice will be remembered. "

Everyone wants to bring up the size of the door, but just HOW floaty would that piece of wood be? Two people, Rose at 125 and Jack at maybe 160 give or take, that's already nearing 300lb.
Everyone's focusing on the wrong things/aspects of this scenario.

I’ve always gotten so frustrated by the “tHeRe WaS rOoM fOr JaCk!” people. They never quite seem to have much of a grasp on physics. They even showed Jack try to get on the door frame in the film and he gives up after almost flipping it.

Dont know why people don't realise that Titanic is a masterpiece because of Jack's death. Jack actually represented the thousands of men who sacrificed their love for their loved ones . On the other hand rose represented the women who lived to justify their loved ones sacrifices with the memory of them . Titanic was already a tragedy with 1500 deaths so would an happy ending really have done justice to this fim ? No . Titanic is a masterpiece. James Cameron you are a legend, be proud of what you did

I would have believed that he died of hypothermia on the door way more than I think that he could have survived in the water

I personally think, Jack was enough Brave, Smart & witty to somehow survive Titanic sinking. Had Rose not jumped back they both could've survived & met each other in NY.

I remember over 10 years ago when people put tape on the ground to simulate the door and it's size just to prove 2 people could fit. It never made sense to me cus things in the water aren't as stable as the literal ground lol Cool to see now why they wouldn't both fit and that it wasn't just a plot hole.

I actually have a critique for this experiment. You'll notice the man acting as Jack doesn't have the metal handcuffs on his wrists. I would think having metal in 20⁰ water sitting at your wrists would play a fairly substantial role in freezing you faster.

Oh this is so frustrating.
Surface area - yea there was room for Jack.
But if he had got on it, it would have flipped Rose off or sat below the surface of the water and been almost impossible to balance on.

Mythbusters actually proved that if they put the life vest under the door it would have given enough buoyancy for them both to be on the floating door

man made a whole documentery to prove it was impossible, only to show both of them sitting on the door out of the water in the final shot

It's always bothered me so much.
There was "enough room" for Jack on the door with her
The problem is that they both would have been partially submerged in the EXTREMELY COLD WATER.
The bodies litterally froze in the water that night. Just a hand in the water could have been lethal let alone a few inches of water across your lower extremities.

It has always bugged me that people think he could have survived. No. He knew he couldn’t. It wasn’t about Rose being selfish; Jack tried to get up and they both fell back in the water, so he made the decision to save her life over himself. The only part I don’t understand is why frozen Jack sank to the bottom.

That door was super light and not designed to hold people. The only reason Rose was able to stay on it is because she was a small woman who didn't weigh much. Even Jack alone would have likely caused it to sink too much so both of them together would have definitely capsized it. With water that freezing, the number 1 most important thing is to get out of it.
Rose survived because the door kept her out of the water completely and the life jacket kept her core temperature from dropping to a critical level. She would have still been freezing and wouldn't have lasted much longer than she did had the boats delayed much further anyway. But if they had both got on it and it had somehow managed to remain afloat, it would have still been partially submerged (as you can see in this video with the water reaching their hands) and that small bit of water would have killed them quicker.
It's maybe possible one of them could have stayed alive with their hands submerged by balancing with their body completely off the door (like doing a push-up). That's how the Chinese passenger Fang Lang survived in real life (there's also a deleted scene showing his rescue) by balancing that way on a table but it was incredibly difficult and two of them couldn't have done it on that door.
So really there was no way for Jack to survive unless he found another piece of debris to survive on.

The guy pretending to be Jack didn't die during the making of the experiment, so...Jack still survives from my assessment.

The fact he did this at all is soooo cool. I appreciate him.

They were literally both on the door in the experiment. Could have huddled together to save the tiniest amount of warmth.
