Okay so heres my take as a chemist (masters degree in it, surrently doing a PhD in chemical engineering)

While its possible for you to contaminate a palette, its highly unlikely. You would have to get mould spores on the palette, moisture alone will not produce mould.
I think its unlikely that this isn't a quality control issue for the following reasons:
Its moulding from the base, not the top. This shows that the mould causing agent is in the palette base, as mould spreads outwards. If it was from a contaminant she introduced the mould would grow across the top
Make up contains preservatives to prevent this happening in the first place, or it should. Thats why you can have eyeshadow palettes from 10 years ago that aren't mouldy. They shouldn't be. They are a powder formula, not cream, and them being expired shouldn't equal mould, expiry dates are more the protect the company.
If this was an issue with her fingers, there would be mould in the other shades, as they are all stored in the same environment and she's touched them all. As I previously mentioned the mould would spread across the top as well, spreading out from the point where her fingers have touched it. It is spreading from underneath, and I guarantee if she pops out that shade there will be mould all across the bottom of the tin.

I also have many many old palettes that this has not happened to and some of them have literally been wet. Irrespective of the storage environment, this still shouldn't happen as it should be preserved in a way where this shouldn't happen. This screams quality control issue to me. Just my take as a trained chemist who still works on the field.

I spilled iced coffee with hella creamer on my first palette back in 2018 and it still doesn’t even have mold 😂

I had the one of the vault (the purple palette) after 8 months I had weird growth/mold on one my matte shades. I actually got a good palettes and I really liked it for few months, and I didn’t touch it. Sooo I believe it🙃

I think a lot of the older palettes used more effective preservatives that people have become afraid of, all those people who want everything "clean" even though that means nothing. Some parabens are bad but not all, but now people are afraid of all of them, for example.

This might sound really stupid coming from someone commenting on a YouTube channel but when I studied organic chemistry we learned that when you take some thing and put it onto another surface mold can be created. For example, if she took a wet brush and put it in that pan even the slightest bit that had some other kind of chemical compound on it, it would then grow with a warm climate. Does that make sense? It doesn’t necessarily have to be the eyeshadow itself whatever was on her brush may have contaminated the product. Honestly, I think it’s her finger that may have touched the pan and some thing was on her finger for example. I don’t know I honestly think it’s her fault and I usually don’t back Jaclyn LOL

I’ve never had mold in any makeup product. This would absolutely be a morphe issue if it’s a legit issue. I’m excited for Jaclyn’s releases. I’m so happy with my highlighter and even my Morphe x Jaclyn 2 pallet.

I don’t have mold on any of my palettes and I get lower quality ones from Marshall’s, where I would not be surprised if it happened, and it’s never happened

Maybe the girl was putting a wet brush in the palette instead of using a dry brush then just spraying the brush

I wonder if it’s setting spray... like if she sprays her shimmers next to the palette and that moisture stays there. Idk just a thought

I don't have any mold in my morphe palettes. I have the Jaclyn palettes and the James Charles palette.
