The last time I brought my dad to the ER in Scarborough Hospital (Toronto Area)
The nurse at the registration told us he'd have to wait at least 6 hours to be seen by a physician.
Months ago another time it was the same, we got here in the morning and left in the evening. Completely unacceptable.
I'm from Cuba and while my home country has a lot of room for improvement I can tell you that neither I nor anyone I know there have ever had to wait this long to be seen at the emergency department, 30 minutes at the most, it usually took 15 minutes to see a doctor.

I'd rather pay for health insurance than risk waiting in line for treatment

Try Quebec hospitals, 22 hours is the average wait time in the emergency room, no exaggeration.

Followed by US, forget to mention that. Both US and Canada have enough doctors but they have been downsizing. Rural hospitals have been closing down left and right as part of downsizing

I lived in more than 14 countries, you have the worst. after long waiting hours, doctor comes to doorstep for 2-4 minutes just ticking the analysis to be done. I have never got my analysis . I have been in montreal, it took me 12 hours. I got a tag number 36 around 4 am, my baby son have been examined after 5 pm. Doctor oriented me to buy from the supermarket shelf a sweet colored syrup. doctor was a Chinese lady didn't even express herself well in French. Luckily my wife is a doctor specialist, she took it on her own. NEVER forget that day till today it s been 22 years.

Wait times longer in the Nice propaganda. The only time I've ever had to wait in an E.R for a prolonged period was when they just got a patient in from an ambulance. And even then it's no longer than 15 minutes.

its still the same, we need private hospitals to give some competition. it always takes 6 - 7 hours to see a doctor in ER!

Here in Michigan at McLaren Hospital I waited for 6 hours in the ER and I still didn’t see a doctor because I left. They told me ppl had been waiting for 11 hours. Here I am 6 months pregnant and waiting hours to even be seen.

Time is of the essence with many conditions! To wait more than a month to see a specialist for a diagnosis is not acceptable. With all the regulatory red tape in Canada that supposedly is to keep Canadians safe, where is the safety when a persons condition worsens or dies because of waiting so long to see a specialist ?

you could fly to Mexico, Cuba or any non- NATO country...walk in to emerge at their hospitals and be out and fly back home in the time you get noticed in a Canadian emergency unit. Why do they call it emergency, when clearly they move their butts like a snail. The quality of care outside Canada is superior to what doctors afford Canadians. It is pure laziness and entitlement. It has nothing to do with pandemics or otherwise...this problem has existed for many, many years here in Canada. A new doctor working in emerge at our local hospital spent one week when he said, "the med staff here, does not take medicine seriously, it's a joke to them" and left two weeks later. Too much politics interfering where they have no business nor expertise. Canadians have no choice and pay high tax dollars for this "free" service no longer available.
