Why the head of the Anglican Church resigned over child abuse handling

Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has resigned as the head of the Anglican Church over his handling of child abuse cases apparently perpetrated by a British lawyer who helped lead Christian camps in the 1970s and 1980s. Harry Farley with BBC News, a CBS News partner, has more.

Talking as a Brit, but not a member of CoE, we have all known for years that Welby was a weak, moral grandstander. His faith, as he professed it, was deeply tied to the death of one of his Children. However, his grandstanding was often thought to be an atonement of sorts for his links to the oil industry. Now, we know the truth. The fact this man, apparently driven to devotion by the death of a child, can so easily cover up such abuse is utterly repugnant.
Resignation is too little for Welby. What will they call his punishment? No peerage, no titles? When already the Government of today says they wish those honours scrapped.
Welby, at best, will suffer the shame of publicity.
