Bangladesh’s student movement has initiated a revolution that seeks democracy and rejects fascism, including rejection of dynastic rule such as envisioned by both Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party with each expecting that one day Sheikh Hasina’s son or Khaleda Zia’s son would rule. They envision a new reformed party politics, but it remains to be seen precisely how this will unfold in the months ahead. It will be difficult to move towards normalcy as long as some agitate for immediate trials of those responsible for murders and torture during the time of Hasina’s rule. And, given the definitions of genocide and crimes against humanity in international law, it will not make sense to have trials conducted under the International Crime Tribunal of Bangladesh—murder, torture, etc. with reference to the governing statutes suffices without referring to concepts such as genocide, the criteria for which are quite clear in international law and not applicable in present context.

Yunus is a decent guy. But expecting him to sort out so many of Bangladesh’s problems in just a few months is a big ask. And he is 84-years-old. (Though looking good for his age, he must have a healthy lifestyle!) I just wish he was 15 years younger. 😢

I think that Sheikh Hasina has no rights, the way she exploited people for 15 years, she will not get any rights for 15 years, then she will realize what a heinous sin it is to deprive people of their rights.

We want Dr. Yunus as our prime minister. He is a kind hearted person and also a genius. Hasina tried to oppress him many times just because he wanted to help the poor people in Bangladesh and stood against injustice.

I'm from Bangladesh, and I tell you most people don't want an election right now. Everyone wants that the system should be changed first so that another dictator should never come! ❤
