As an Australian, I did know this. It’s actually less terrifying than you would think, it happens often, mostly when baby spiders are born a whole bunch of them do this and creates “spider rain”. Usually though you just notice that there’s a heap of spiderweb covered everything (fences and grass etc), you don’t actually see the spiders raining from the sky
