I pulled out the old gramophone my dad used to show me to show my grandaughter and the needle is so dull u can't understand the words. I was disappointed. Will try this! Thanks!

I remember my uncle told me they used to have a gramophone and they have a box of needles labeled 1, 000 pieces and instruction said replace needle every two sides of a record which is 3 minutes per side on a 10" 78 RPM shellac disc. If they don't they can't understand the lyrics anymore. Unlike today which if you have a diamond stylus you only have to replace them every several years.

Never ever do this. New needles have a rounded, or more precisely, elliptical tip. If you sharpen the needle like this, it will scratch the bottom of the groove.

Your video shows precisely why this is a bad idea. Just look at the wobble of that needle when you spin up your drill! There is no way to get it and keep it straight! That needle is WORSE for your records after you did this! You are better off just reusing it.
