Genesis Does! Sega Genesis Mini Unboxing and Testing

Welcome to a special bonus edition of Genesis Does! With the release of the Sega Genesis Mini this week it seemed appropriate to come back and showcase the system -- unbox it, plug it in, give it a spin. Unfortunately I got a very nasty surprise when my package from Amazon arrived!! They sent me the Genesis Mini in a PADDED ENVELOPE instead of a box, and you can imagine the sorry state the box was in. Actually you don't have to imagine! Just watch the video and you'll see. Maybe this wouldn't matter to some people but if I'm paying $80 for something I want the box it comes in to be as nice as what's inside. I'm still going to plug it in and test it just to make sure it's not messed up given how it looks, so join me as I see if the lag in Sonic 2 is as bad as reported. Also on the block for this video - Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Darius, and Tetris - three games that are all exclusive to the Mini in one way or another! (Wily Wars was not released in the US except on the Sega Channel, Darius was never released at all, and Tetris wasn't SUPPOSED to be released but about 10 copies exist anyway.) You certainly weren't the only one. I saw some much worse off photos of boxes from MLP's Facebook group.
And yet you could probably buy a screwdriver later and receive it in a 10x5x5 box full of plastic pillows.

Are you kidding me Remind me when I ordered the Mini NES trough Best Buy and it was hyper rare they shipped it in a stupid envelope like your Mini Genesis and I could not return it or ask for a refund it was so rare that I kept it.


But the box was not as worse as yours though all the corner were crushed a little plus there was a little dent on the back of the box but still this really sucks for collectors like us.


But hey, great video man, haha that Tetris game is pretty basic uh? still cool to have this rare game on it.

I bought my genesis mini when it was in store, I don't remember if it was Target or Gamestop but it was in a mall.

* Sucks to see/hear about the box.
* The menu music was done by legendary video game composer Yuzo Koshiro (best known for his work on the Streets of Rage and Actraiser series).
* Sonic 2 seems fine to me.
* Thought The Wily Wars would be the first game you played, TBH. You did good in Cut Man's stage!
* Darius seems hard.
* A little disappointed that the traditional Tetris music isn't used, but at least the backgrounds are nice.

I ended up getting my pre-order from Best Buy. However, for unknown reasons they didn't allocate for it properly and I ended up getting the last one at my store from the shelf. As a result, I have nice dents on the side of the box due to the crazy tight security cord they have wrapped around them.

Amazon sends dented boxes? Not shocked. The Genesis Mini is a nice nostalgia trip and I look forward to getting one despite the sound issues some are reporting
