Not anywhere at the level of these guys, but I’ve definitely had those moments when going in for a claw catch and last minute decide to try to pancake. Some throws are just harder to read than others.

Great video! I've had so many debates with teammates about how to catch. One guy is adamant that if you clap catch, you're giving the defender a target to layout into. You're right that the D usually isn't close enough. Thanks!

As a high school player “power catching” or claw as you referred to it was pushed onto us a lot by our coaches but I always found it unreliable especially, as you said, in windy conditions or with a floppy throw

For me the big fundamental here is not to create a hard catch for no reason. My club captain used to get incensed when people jumped to catch a disc they could've caught standing. "Stop introducing more variables!"

It's a really good point and often overlooked how these simple techniques can come through in the clutch if you make a habit of them
