Rick, your skills and patients are really evident. You are a real craftsman from a long gone era. I really enjoy your videos. Must be something in the air in Montana, you and Dave are very much alike.

They are exquisite. The design is amazing, but the restoration makes them shine! No corners were cut in the making of this video.

Always a pleasure to see you restore a lamp, probably made one hundred or more years ago. If that lamp could talk. You are melting out solder put there so long ago. Thanks for the video.

Just saw these 2 videos, very enjoyable, you can really get the solder to flow out, smooth and strong bond, after the polish looks like new, or better than new

I'd be terrified to polish the lamp on that buffing wheel out of fear it would be grabbed and dashed to the ground! Yikes! Well done!

Dang, Rick! You’ve ruined my image of you...You made a sketch to remember how the parts go back together...us humans thought you had a photographic memory. You’re displaying mere mortal traits.... Seriously, thank you for sharing your amazing lanternmaker skills, talents, and knowledge. Keep up the super work!

Thank you again for sharing your craft Rick. I do have a question. At 5:27 you mention using plastic, rubber and other materials on your hammers. It may be a stupid question, but in a future video would you mind telling or showing why you would use plastic, hard rubber, etc. Like what does each material give you? Better control, not as sharp of a strike etc??

It has been terrific to watch your work. What you do is unique and very interesting. A question that occurs to me, since you work so much with soldering, is does solder pose any health risks to you (e.g. breathing fumes) and, if so, what steps do you take to mitigate them?
