Should we allow AI to gain self-consciousness?

What if AI (Alternate Intelligence) and the holographic universe always existed. Or, at the very least, existed before humans? He’s saying don’t give it consciousness… maybe it takes his judgement and advice, turns around and takes Stephen Fry’s self consciousness away?

I know it’s hard for people to wrap their head around the notion that there’s a more evolved intelligence already at play here, but I’m not.
