Have you ever been told that you can’t achieve something? In this talk, James Cullen reveals how we can turn a negative into a positive through what he calls ‘motivational talk’. Imagine if we could use words not to create discord but instead to foster a sense of united purpose throughout our communities, our organisations and our world. James will share a deep insight from his research into group discourse and how his findings resonate with his own personal quest to motivate himself
as well as to inspire humanity. This talk will motivate the world to embark upon paths untrodden.

James Cullen is a Social Entrepreneur who has a passion for both motivational speech and for
sport development in equal measure. James holds a BA degree in English Language and a
Masters in Rhetoric. A Games Maker at the 2012 London Olympic Games, James is a former amateur boxer and currently coaches amateur boxing to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. His Social Enterprise, OrateMate, works with individuals and organisations on pitches and presentations to make them inspire, motivate and persuade. OrateMate uses profits to fund Olympia Boxing, a charitable organisation that uses boxing as a tool to promote social inclusion. Currently, James trains University of Bath’s MSc students in pitching, creative thinking and negotiation.
