We ELECTED this government to make these laws. Big companies need to follow OUR laws or they can leave.

This looks like a narrow view from single perspective. You have pointed out the latest Delhi police - twitter & covid-19 fiasco. But this request from government dates back to 2019, it's just a coincidence that deadline to comply ends now.
India is not going China's way rather it's going EU/ Australia/ US way.

Hey Uptin
You have one wrong fact in video, US population is nearly 350 million and you told over there that 40 million use whatsapp and that’s way more than us entire population

For us our Country's national security is first concern not our privacy, so our government is doing great job 👏

Oh the irony..I mean this video is a perfect example of why twitter and few others are facing issues with the Indian government.. showing only one side of the story to fit an ideology or a narrative..😅😅

Hi Uptin! I'd like to add a few more points too:
The new regulations that were put forth by the govt in Feb which basically says that if someone is breaking an IT law on a platform, then the platform must assist the government or they will lose their intermediary status, i.e., the platform itself will be held responsible. This is fairly reasonable in my opinion(I believe Singapore and Australia also have similar laws) but asking whatsapp to trace the originator is unreasonable as it will hamper the public's privacy.
Also about the whole twitter thing, its actually very complex but you simplified it very nicely!
As an Indian I can safely say that twitter, whatsapp and in some cases instagram have really become sources of misinformation! And the power that they have is HUGE! People believe everything they see! For example: Lots of misinformation about the covid vaccine is being shared on whatsapp; so much so that in the district I live in (just outside of Delhi) 50-60% of the people are absolutely against taking it because the rumours say it causes infertility.
But yeah censorship can be tolerated only to a certain point, and that too not with end-to-end encryption.

Doesn't matter if you are a US based company if you are working in India you must follow the law of the land as simple as that. Plus posts relating to harassments can't just be cured by a single tag underneath it, it needs to be deleted. & before making videos on India please make sure that you use the proper map of that country.

First get the Indian map correct if you wish to make a video on India!

The reason mentioned in the video is one of many reasons for which social media is being asked to comply. Making them accountable, controlling misinformation and revamping old law is badly needed now in india. Discussion is needed on it but terming this as like india going china's way against silicon valley is an exaggeration. Please do some more research and report it. Have been following you for years, but sorry this looks like any westernized narrow view.

With all due respect Uptin this was perfectly explained reason regarding what's going on between Indian Govt and Tech companies, and sadly its true govt want to hide the truth if you post something in a favor govt and against the oppositions, they will appreciate you and use your post to show we are doing great things but if you post against govt or try to questions their actions you'll be label as anti-national, and govt members are like the country and people won't forgive you but the truth is no one give damn about it. Nowadays in India asking govt is like questioning/ pointing the figure at the nation which is wrong even the media do the same thing instead of being neutral they sound more like taking the side of the leading political party.

It's completely fine whether you talk something bad/ good about our country!
But first, use India's proper map man! 🤦🤦🤦
Your map is more misleading than Twitter 🤦
