My entire working life I've always tried to put a little bit of money aside, whether it be 10 to 30pc of my salary. Rather than three luxury holidays per year I've settled for a cheap budget holiday in Spain with the family - seeking the cheapest flights, car rentals etc. Have always bought a good old second hand car and would never purchase. For the majority of the time I shop at Asda or Lidl, rarely at M&S and Waitrose. Rarely do I live for today and beyond my financial means... If they are in the position to, doesn't anyone save for a rainy day ie have enough money to keep them and family afloat for 6 plus months should a disaster occur?
