Everybody seems to be hating but they don't have a clue that the guitarist in this video is Deep Purple's actual most recent guitarist.

One more thing, Ritchie played the riff with his fingers, not a pick. That's what gave each chord that staccato snap.

Absolutely!
Seriously, WTF do they teach in school these reason it was the first riff we learned to play way back then (70's) was because you could play it before you could even play a chord! Couldn't believe it when I saw it being made complicated. It's simple, it's powerful, it just works! 🤪

I saw Simon with Deep Purple this year and he's a beast

I remember playing that riff by accident once. I euphorically played it over and over again for at least an hour.

The Steve Morse era was the best era imo.

This is coming from the best DP guitarist since Blackmore. He's right on.

As much as I love Steve Morse, Simon brought a new or renewed energy to purple! Saw them last Labor Day weekend and he blew me away.

It's actually played on the E & A strings with your fingers, at the 10th fret. That gives it that low end you'll never get this way, although Ritchie plays it at this position live as many videos show. Made in Japan he starts in a different key just to break em.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" words to live by

The only thing I would add if I was playing a solo arrangement is my thumb on third playing a droning g like the bass does. Otherwise he is spot on

Me thinks this is a jab at the way Steve Morse played it 🤓

There’s something about the way he says “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” that irritates the hell out of me🤣

Maybe it's the biggest plagiarism in rock. It's a Brazilian riff.

It's tough because it's perfect. It leaves all the heavy lifting to other instruments.

Only 🌈Mr. Blackmore♈️ can play this masterpiece correctly.
