Big shout out once more to the lovely Mr X who has been on a spending spree of late. More to come! I really like the Pelagos, and I really like this Pelagos. Perhaps there are just a few too many compromises inherent in the design for me to label it perfect though. But it does suggest that the perfect Pelagos is out there, lunkring..... Cheers, Jody

I had a chat to a mate who’s a Padi dive certified instructor (I might have got the nomenclature wrong)
Anyway he explained to me the lengths he had to go to to dive to 70 metres on a wreck somewhere.
It was unbelievable; pausing on the way up, three tanks he had to pick up etc etc.
Anyway the point is no one needs more than 100m WR, because no one is going to go that deep.
Let’s make and wear thinner, more comfortable diver watches. Enough hockey pucks.

Perhaps the definitive watch reviewer!

The snowflake hands are my favourite hand set, just stunning :)

12.6 thick plus 1.5 in strap added on, which equals the old Pelagos in thickness.

Hurray for Mr. X!!! Glad to hear he's doing well. Not sure if I like this model, but Tudor makes a decent watch. Loved the Jacques Cousteau reference!

I love that the FXD is a tool watch designed for a specific job, not a "tool" watch designed to look pretty at the office.

Also, the countdown bezel is every bit as useful as an elapsed time bezel, if you're actually timing something. I doubt 99% of people need a unidirectional elapsed time bezel for anything beyond bragging about how "real" their diver's watch is.

Thanks for the review. Still my grail, still saving for one - probably a MN 22 or 23

Removal of the crenelated chapter ring, bidirectional bezel, 300m less water resistance and fixed lugs all make this a VERY niche offering. I can't agree that the original in-house movement is too thick, I don't find it thick at all tbh. The original was as close to perfect as I've seen a dive watch get frankly.

I prefer the countdown bezels, far more use every day than the standard diver.

Love the Pelagos but I'd opt for the Original.
I like the Bracelet and Clasp for the on the Fly adjustment.

It’s lovely. No date, course bezel and crown.
Countdown bezel is great for actual use.
I know how long I have left for lunch or whatever.
Good addition to Pelagos range.
One of the best tie ins I can think of (all that space/moon stuff is a joke).
Need an MN22 so I can wear it!
Needs an aftermarket FXD specific strap.

That matt blue and chunky lumpy white indices. Remarkable ✨.

I think there is something Really important to understand about this watch is that it have been made as an order under the specification of the Commando Hubert' frogman (of the marine national). So every one of them got this watch as their navigation watch. It's a real military tool watch used everyday by frogmans, so for me it's difficult to complain about what they need for their work : fixed Springbar, navigation bezel, no date, Military spec NATO, etc

How a Scotsman in Australia got his hands on a Texas A&M Shirt from College Station, I'll never know. But Cheers! I teach at that University!

Love the blue. Like the "No Date". The fixed lug, there are so many thousands of straps to choose from I've got no problem with it. Watch before strap.

One additional thing in terms of the differences between the FXD and the standard version that I don't think was called out here Jody is the coarser looking notches on the bezel on the FXD. The standard version has more notches giving a much smoother look, which I prefer tbh.

I love it! It's a gorgeous watch and the lack of bracelet makes it seem absolutely bomb proof. I don't mind a material/elastic/nato style straps in general

Most surprising thing about this video? The Texas A&M shirt.

Technical feedback: the video seems to end very abruptly, with "Thanks for watching, I'll see <click>". I presume you said "… you", but at least when I play this video on YouTube that gets cut off.

I really love the originality of the bi-directional countdown bezel. I normally look at how much time I have remaining, such as a parking meter. Set the bezel to the limit on the meter, and the watch will tell you how many minutes you have remaining to get back to the car. On a regular dive bezel, the bezel is set to zero at the beginning. You will know how many minutes have elapsed, but how many minutes remain? Did you pay for 20 minutes or 40 minutes? The countdown timer does not forget that detail.
