There's nothing controversial about questioning her background. She has in the past, been promoted up the ranks as someone of Indian descent. Also she was raised in Canada, then moved to the US. Her father is Jamaican by way of being Indian and Irish. So take from that what you will. I personally don't prescribe to the Jim Crow era rule of one drop means your black. But in Democrat circles, its okay to play fast and loose with that. Even if she has repeatedly identified herself as being Indian in several interviews prior becoming VP. So yeah, we are all a tad bit confused, but not exactly something I would get myself in a tizzy about either. It was a loaded question from a hostile interviewer...so no matter how he answered it, they would have found a way to say your a bad person.

She could have showed up like Trump did. Talk about disrespect

The caribbean / Jamaican doesn’t mean black. There’s TONS of East Indians and white people in the Caribbean. She’s East Indian by WAY of Jamaica.

Also, East Indians are decidedly ANTI BLACK. So having someone with that mindset is dangerous for black AMERICANS… do your research on that culture and the racial caste system of India AND Jamaica. And see how they treat the “black”
Indians. They call them “untouchables”.

Nobody really cares much about race, they worry more about competency

Why is it jaw dropping? She’s not black and that’s ok. It’s weird that she keeps insisting she’s black. She has enough of the minority card, doesn’t need to add ‘black’ to it. She shd just be honest about her heritage and nobody will think twice about it

Why didn't she show up, she was invited to

So wait she’s Jamiacan and Indian?
She’s not African-American black like she claims?

Real African black is different from black-American. Jamaicans do boast about being African American. They embrace their Jamaican roots. So how convenient she claims to be black now.

She’s not black African. She’s half Indian and half Jamaican 🇮🇳 🇯🇲

She’s not BLACK! Her father is Irish & Indian. Her mother is Indian.

She’s half Black Caribbean and half Asian Indian. Therefore, she is mixed-race. Consequently, why doesn’t she just celebrate both sides of her heritage? Why should she feel forced to ‘pick a side’?

Black women and black people please don't be so desperate to break barriers that we claim someone that accomplishments has nothing to do with us. If voting on race is the issue them it's a great accomplishment for the Asian community.

Trump was stating how he felt about her racial heritage, it was a loaded Q, it does not matter what he answered. Trump could have declined the Q altogether. He should not appear in such divisive organisation anyway.
