Edit May 7th 2018 - When I did this video, it was intended as a private view only for my brother in law. I accidentally selected public instead of private when posting. I smile every time someone comments on my wife talking in the background. I hope the content has helped :)

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I've been dying in LA due to the heat wave and this helped me figure out how to install one of these things. My dad is nearly 3000 miles away (he usually helps me with such things) so thank you for being a YouTube dad for sad people like me

Bravo Geoff. The video I saw right before this one was of a guy essentially creating an entire fine woodmaking cabinet to house the friggin thing. I was about to give up. Thank you!!

Wow! This easily has to be one of the greatest, most simplest diy videos in you tube history! Thank you guys!

Geoff, you're a lifesaver! after watching all these videos with 8 hour projects involving 3 different power tools, this is simplicity at its best. My 3/8 inch aluminum rod is holding things in like a charm--the key is finding something that matches the measurements of the screen that you insert in that window. I also used 1/2 inch foam board to insulate above and on the sides, silver side facing out, which you can cut with a razor blade, and along with duct tape, this is now the best insulated window in my entire house. Well done!

I’m in Northern California and it’s been super hot these last few weeks. My AC unit just went out and repair guy can’t come out for a few days. I bought a cheap one from Sam’s club for $150 and installed it in less than 10 minutes. I had some old rebar and works perfect. I can take it out if needed so easily and put it back just as easy. I connected it to my blue tooth plug so I can turn it on or off with my phone. No drilling into the walls or anything. Thank you soooo much for this idea.

This is the most simplest and still durable cost effective video I’ve seen. Thank you for this Video 👍

Just did this myself for two window ACs and it worked flawlessly. I actually just sawed an old broom handle and that worked perfectly. Feels very secure.

You guys are the best! Perfect and easiest way to install a window ac. To avoid the hassle, I almost purchased a portable ac.

Phenomenal!! The most expensive part was the plexiglass from Home Depot. It's money well spent...especially during heatwave in Southern Cali. THANKS GEOFF!! shout out to your wife for the excellent commentary and video work!!

Brilliant, looked at other videos and this by far is the easiest, smart way to do it. I did the theory with my available parts from home. Used a very very large wood dowel rod thing I had laying around. I added one screw to bracket and wood dowel and duct tape. And then a little more duct tape to go across over the tape in the opposite direction. Took me 10 minutes and you can literally pick up the entire AC with dowel (but don't recommend that.) easier and more secure. Thank You your awesome!!!!

This video was the most helpful one i've seen! We live in an apartment and i really didn't want to make screw holes required for the brackets they sell at the store. GOing to go measure and go to the hardware store! Thank you!!

This is great. My portable AC is just not strong enough to cool my apartment and I'm at 13000 BTU's-what I need is 18000 and that's moving me to a window unit like this as I only have 2 sliding glass doors. Thank you so much. I needed this!

I installed my own a/c units by making a little shelf for the unit to sit on, with L-shaped shelf braces inside and outside to hold it steady. My way works but makes it look a little ghetto (when we're sweating in 105 degree heat I don't care much lol). But your method! OMG I'm definitely trying this way when I put my daughter's window unit back in in a few days. That's brilliant! I'm glad I accidentally found your video!!! Thank you :)

This is a very clever way to keep the window AC from falling out the window, Thank you for sharing this (even if it was shared by accident).

I just bought a house and have never had to use a window unit before. This helps a ton. Thank you.

This was what I was looking for, we are putting two in, and I was over-engineering a whole way of doing this. I saw your video and gave me a much easier way to solve it. I think it fun that you both did this video wasn't rehearsed just two people having fun. Have a good one.

Thanks so much. This video was just what I needed. I didn’t want to spend 3 times as much for a “slider” unit. I wish I saw it sooner. I have portable window units w hose and they aren’t so good. I went straight to Home Depot, got that 1/4 in bar and BINGO !!! Lol We are in business. Really hot in So Cal, thanks again I appreciate it

I'm really glad you made it public. So many other videos make this WAY more complicated than it needs to be, and your solution looks almost too easy... a single rod?!? I'll need to give this a try! ;)
