Terminal pd, Electromotive force (EMF) Internal resistance of a cell explained
Electromotive Force and Internal Resistance. The electromotive force (e) or e.m.f. is the energy provided by a cell or battery per coulomb of charge passing through it, it is measured in volts (V). It is equal to the potential difference across the terminals of the cell when no current is flowing.
in this video, i accurately explain the differences between terminal pd, electromotive force (EMF) and internal resistance of a cell. terminal potential difference is simply the voltage across the terminals of a cell on a closed circuit or when current is being drawn out of the cell whereas electromotive force is the pd across the ends of a cell on an open circuit or when no current is being drawn out of the cell.
