How did Nintendo miss this?! The Shrines of Light in Tears of the Kingdom are in the wrong place in the Dragon Tear Memories. Or are they?

I always figured the four shrines of light the plateau are the four that ended up in the Great Sky Islands, rising up alongside the temple of time, and the Sheikah would later reuse those locations for their own shrines

Someone made a good connection that the lightroots are the spots where demons were sealed or purified. There are 4 shrines there on the plateau, and in the present, they're all chasms that lead into the depths with no lightroots, implying that those 4 demons were released. Colgera, Mucktorok, Marbled Gohma, and Queen Gibdo.

This is an easter egg referencing the game of thrones Starbucks cup

Maybe when TOTK was in early development, Nintendo put the Zonai shrines where the Sheikah shrines were in BOTW, just as placeholders until they finished the majority of the game, and made the memory cutscenes before moving the shrines.

There's a worling theory that those four shrines were holding the demons that are the 4 main bosses of the game in each regional phenomenon, when they busted loose of the Lightroots they burrowed their way out and cuased the shrines to not exist anymore

Pretty sure I saw a lore-accurate explanation for that, don’t remember where or what it was. It’s something along the lines of those being the shrines or light for ganondorf originally, but new shrines of light showed up when ganondorf broke his seal

how the fuck did this turn into a religious debate

Personal head canon, but in one of the memories Rauru talks to Zelda after Sonia’s death about how the future changed when Zelda went back in time, so I feel like it could be that the new Shrines from TotK could be the shrines of BotW, but just in that new future.

Welp, this is like the errors you see in movies, such as a starbucks cup in game of thrones. Oops!

Zelda giving the Sheilkah Slate to Mineru caused a time paradox where Zonai tech replaced Sheikah tech

The best theory i heard was that during the upheaval when the shrines were starting to emerge, Ganondorf sucked those four shrines in particular info the depths and destroyed their light roots.

They always say the shrines/light roots mark places where great evils were sealed in the depths. This was a location with several densely packed shrines that we only he knew about so he chose to break them when he could. Why? He needed powerful demons to block/try to take the secret stones.

Each of the four bosses was sealed in one of the great plateau light roots/shrines until Big G busted them out and left four gaping holes into the depths there they once were

Theory: the shiekah used zonai to model their own stuff, as well as building over zonai shrines, but the upheaval, being the upheaval, destroyed the outer shells and revealed the shrines of light? I know it has some holes like interior design but like...Loz has done weirder.

I find it interesting that the four chasm locations on the great plateau are in the location of the magnesis, stasis, cryonsis, and bombs runes are located

Ya’ll are just rationalizing away a mistake Nintendo made. They forgot their own lore, its not that deep

the theory is that the four monsters we fight (Colgera, uhhh queen gidbo yk) in totk were trapped by the light roots of those shrines (the light roots are were powerful demons were defeated) and bc these shrines were removed is bc the monsters got free

It's not only the shrines on the plateau. In one memory you can also barely see a Zonai shrine in the location of the Jee Noh shrine from BOTW. It's at the entrance to the Gerudo region

Lore answer feels like the last one makes sense. But I think they just made the cutscenes before deciding to move them

I think since there are chasms where the shrines of light were in the cut scene that the shrines may of fallen and broke and that is why when you max out hearts it is not two full rows

nintendo just changed the textures for the shrines to quickly set them up in tears of the kingdom and used the same places from breath of the wild for the memories. This is not intended.

Well, it gets more interesting if you think about what the purpose of these shrines were.

In the Anchient Stone Tablet Quest you get tiny extra Lore and in one of these the purpose of the shrines of Light were mentioned:

Everywhere where a shrine of Light Was in the past has been a mighty Demon being slain by Rauru and Sonia and the remaining evil parts of them get put in these shrines to purify the Evil Energy with Rauru's Blue/White Holy energy and release neutral Green Energy.

The fact that the Shrines of Light were at the spots in the Past meant there were originally powerful demons being sealed, but the fact that in these four Locations in the Present were CHASMS where Miasma/Gloom spreads out is quite interesting...
