Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held three election rallies in poll-bound eastern Bihar state to campaign for his Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies, drawing thousands of cheering supporters amid coronavirus outbreak. Elections in Bihar will start next week and will be held over three phases. India has reached a significant milestone in its fight against COVID-19 as the active caseload of the country has fallen below 700,000 for the first time in nearly two months. Meanwhile, authorities have said the Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik will be tested in India on 100 volunteers before proceeding for a larger trial. U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper will be visiting India next week to participate in the third India-U.S. 2+2 ministerial dialogue. India's Foreign Ministry on Thursday said the agenda for dialogue will cover all bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interests. Protests were held across the world on Thursday to mark October 22 as Black Day to condemn Pakistan's role in the invasion of Jammu & Kashmir on the fateful day in 1947, which brought in its wake horrifying stories of mass plunder and vandalism. As Afghanistan peace talks drag on, the Taliban insurgents are increasing their activities in various regions of the country despite calls from the international community and the Afghan people for a ceasefire and a reduction of violence. According to the Afghan Ministry of Defense on Thursday, Taliban fighters had expanded their attacks to 24 provinces over the past 24 hours, reports suggest. Sri Lankan Parliament has passed the controversial ‘Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution’ with a two-third majority that envisages expansive powers and greater immunity for the Executive President. Festival season is here. At a time when people across Nepal are marking the Hindu festival of Dashain, locals in Lalitpur district are observing the festival of Rudrayani which is popularly known as the “Sikali Jatra." Celebrated for five days, the people during the festival pay homage to the patron deity, goddess Rudrayani. Music has over the years acted as an effective way to create awareness. A local singing group in India's Jammu and Kashmir organized a free musical concert this week to educate the youth about the ill-effects of drugs and inspire them to take up activities, which will have constructive and positive impact on their lives.
