How to setup a basic single host oVirt environment

I show the setup of a basic oVirt environment on a old server. The server is ruining centos 7 and has a xeon e5450 and 8gb fbddr2, but this should work on any system that supports virtualization extensions.

One thing I want to mention is, do not uncheck “Automatically configure host firewall” under “Advanced Parameters” when creating the new host. Otherwise oVirt will not properly configure the firewall for SPICE, and, unless you figure out how to set everything up yourself, virt-viewer graphics console native client will not work, you will get the “Unable to connect to the graphic server” error.

For a hosted engine setup as you have shown, what's the difference between "yum install ovirt-engine" and "yum install ovirt-hosted-engine-setup"? Is the hosted engine setup deprecated with ovirt v4.1? What are your thoughts?

So, if I get it right you are installing a plain CentOS 7, then the engine on top of it and as last step you configure the same server in the engine as an host.

Have you ever faced any issue with this setup? I'm looking for the best way to set up a self contained oVirt environment, and can't really make up my mind between this way and the alternative (hosted-engine running on a loopback nfs mount) - any tip would be appreciated!

I setup a iso directory like you did, made sure owner:group was correct..even chmod 777 on it. When I try to run once on a new VM and select an ISO, its not in the list even though I did a refresh and permissions are 777.

how hard is it to setup a cluster with oVirt? i have tried another hypervisor program before, it was a preinstall linux based iso, but unfortunately it did NOT cut it for me. The hypervisor kept complaining that my second server had different ram and cpu, so the 2 machines could not be clustered. I have been trying to find some software that could just over look this issue. Hopefully this can be the one!

Hello, great tutorial, but I have a problem.
When I set up everything, create my VM and run it once, I proceed to download the .vv file from the console icon. I have virt-viewer binaries installed on my Windows 7 PC, but when I open the file, the "remote" window opens, but it is stuck on "Connecting to the graphic interface" and after that it just show an error "Can't connect to the graphic interface" and shuts down. Any idea what could be wrong? Could it be a problem with SPICE? Any idea how to fix that?
