I have always found it interesting how there are still people who believe in many of the ancient beliefs of the Sumerians. It's amazing that in a way, we are still living in the shadow of the culture of the very first "civilization"

As an Iraqi/Aussie I'd like to add a few interesting things

1-They say that Iraq is actually named after Uruk
2-With the evolution of language and such there are still depictions of the ancient language passed down for instance the sun is actually called (shams)
3-The story that we were raised with the beginning of the world was that the gods are a superior form of being from another planet ( I believe Nibiru) that were sent to earth to harvest it's wealth and as that planet arrives every few thousand years that's when they created humans
4- Work is a the highest form of prayer in their belief
5- Mesopotamia did not have a desert terrain - it was actually quite green and wealthy

But Thank You for bringing light to this civilisation. I feel like it gets too forgotten all the time.

We both read a shortened version of the Gilgamesh Epic a few years back. The intertextuality to later literary religious text was astounding for us. Although your content largely concerns stuff a few years earlier than ours we thoroughly enjoyed it. YouTube seems to lack content in this particular time period quite a bit. Came from Snow Crash. I had heard of the Sumerian religion from reading the Epic of Gilgamesh in college, but until reading the novel Snow Crash I had no idea how historically significant it was.
