My son was Army, a Tanker. They didnt make us do that. They just dismissed them, so no one felt alone and jilted. Those who had no family there were led by soliders who did to meet their family. I took several non family Servicemen to dinner at a restaurant with us.

I saw a video once where after a mom had hugged her son, she waited until the end of the event to see who was left standing and went and hugged each and every one of them, so they knew someone was there for them as well that day.

Yes it is a sad tradition but that doesn’t mean you should take it away from everyone because of the select few that don’t have people that day, that’s what wouldn’t be fair. This is meant to be the day you have your support system come by and tap you out of training. I know it’s sad not everyone has a support system but you can still see the beauty in the day.

I think this is so cruel for these soldiers. Especially the ones without family. I’d be hugging every single one of them left standing after asking of course.

Been there done that....what is really sad is when a soldier stays still bc no family or friends are alive to congratulate them....only the recruiter if they r lucky.

My best friend was left standing until there were only a few left, one of his buddies came with his mom and helped him and the rest of the soldiers without families, I always thought this tradition to be a little cruel and callous, but thank you to our soldiers who decided that they’d give back to their communities regardless of their family situations 🫡
