A comparison of the Zoom H6's XY Capsule vs the Zoom H1's built in XY mic.

I extracted the audio from this video, then I adjusted levels and EQ from the H1 portions a little bit. Lowering the H6 level by 3 db and EQuing the H1 by +3 db @ 200 hz and -5 db @ 4 khz made them sound very close. The H6 still sounds a little bit better in quality in general, stereo separation is much better. Still, the H1 sounds very, very good and pretty close with a little EQ.
The H6 definitely has a bigger, more pleasing sound to my ears but the H1 sounds pretty impressive, especially considering the price.

I would have loved to have seen (well, heard!) a test of the XY mic at 90 degree and 120degree or in between to hear the surround difference - I just bought this beastly H6 a few weeks ago and after having been using the hell out of my h2N for the last 4 years I have a bunch of new variables to sift through but I want to fast-track this learning curve so if anyone can give a few fine tuning tips on this this or other things that would be appreciated, otherwise I will keep experimenting. I mainly use its XY to record cymbals/toms on an acoustic drum kit up close then an input for the snare drum and an input for the kick drum, an input for the bass guitar and an input for vocals and I use the line-in on my old h2N zoom recorder for the guitar track. Or on occasions I just use the M/S mics of my h2N to record the bass guitar and cymbals/toms of the drums at a particular angle in a band jam then do the snare, kick, guitar as inputs on the h6.

good vid straight to the point! h6 def sounds like better quality audio to me. would you be able to do the test with add/use a lapel mic to each of them to see the difference?

Hey man! Thanks for the demo! First, you are too far from the mic. Hearing a lot of room and sound noise. If this is the only sample that I have, I love the sound of H1 capsule. It is dry and kinda flat. Nice "Low cut" and "high cut" but I'm not sure if I can get back or recover some sound from the raw file. I think so far, H1 would be nice for vocals (To been used in any DAW). H6 is a great piece of gear but high and low end is too present. Have to tweek it after recording. But, again, too far from the mic to get a real sense of the sound.

Great video thanks, can you please tell me can i use H6 for prank videos, as i will have to attach it to my body with a lab mic and take it around can it give good sound at that time ?or will it be too big to carry around ?
