What Are the Signs of the Holy Spirit? - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, on this Sixth Sunday of Easter, the Church gives us a kind of foretaste of Pentecost. In all three readings, we hear descriptions of the work of the Holy Spirit—the animating principle of the Mystical Body. What are the signs that the Holy Spirit is at work? Let’s look at five of them.

i met a young woman once, at work, who was always (eternally i now think) joyful - nothing changed this in her demeanor, ever. she radiated this joy to all around her, and could (and did) turn sour discussions into soft, meaningful, cooperative and loving interchanges. this young woman, and my mama, are two in my 72 year life who are/were the sign of the holy spirit to me; and bring joy to my heart each time i hear them in my head and heart. they are love of other, exemplified.

This old English lady (born in 1934) was brought up in a protstant household where she was taught never to speak of religion politics and money in “polite society” I think this is the reason our British bishops have not succeeded in effecting Ecumenism in the right way…..too fearful of “offending” people! I became a Catholic in 1958 and am an OCDS for 45 years now.

What a beautiful sermon as always. Thank you Bishop Barron. I definitely have felt the Holy Spirit most strongly when I came back to my faith after several years. I’ve felt all of those signs. From feeling unexplained joy to really learning my faith, to really changing my view of the definition of love. I am so blessed and I thank the Lord for this beautiful gift that He gave us.

Talking about the Holy Spirit. I was baptized in the Melkite Greek Catholic Church and did all my other sacraments in the Catholic Church. I actually learned that recently as I was born in Venezuela (all we say there is the Catholic Church, regardless of rites) and because I was baptized as an infant. Now I live in San Diego and one day, I was driving on the 805 and I saw the top of a church and I felt God saying: go to that church. I didn’t go right away. As a matter of fact, I went just this week and that first revelation happened a few months ago. When I went, I felt right at home. It almost felt like the Holy Spirit saying: this is where you belong. I know still is the same catholic faith but expressed differently. I told my wife that I’d love to go to a Devine Liturgy but she is against it. I do feel the Holy Spirit pulling me in switching rites. Please brothers and sisters in Christ, pray for me so the Lord can help me discern this call. 🙏
