What is amazing about this song is that this song, literally, feels like a trip to Rome: it contains all the necessary elements to depict the city, at a very deep level, it literally conjurs it up in your unconscious. The lyrics and the music remind you about feelings, people, memories, vibes, pictures in your head, with so many hues and so much complexity and completeness.
It was first performed at the Sanremo song contest in 1983: it didn't win (4th place), but it was awarded the Sanremo Critics prize for that year by the qualified jury (music experts and journalists).
