Tutorials like this makes you want to go back to old arrangements and fix the obvious issues we all made when we started without compromising the sound of it, which we liked when we started. And it works I just tested this so thanks!

I had NO IDEA Reason bounces each clip separately, i.e. without previous clip's FX bleeding into it and that it renders the whole tail! Wow. I'm aware only of Studio One doing this. AWESOME!!!

Chopping clips before the bounce is the secret sauce I didn't know I needed

I bounce all my midi in place just to commit and knew that the audio does continue if you drag the clips out, but I never thought to use it in this way. Cool tip, thank you

Very cool. At first, thought you were cutting the sound with the reverb. Then realized you were only cutting the 100% wet mix. Very nice result. Feel like I should add this to a final mixing checklist. 🤙🔥

This was a really cool tip, thanks for sharing it! I suppose a somewhat elaborate way to still retain the ability to tweak the sound afterwards without having to redo this chop work would be to instead automate switching between two reverb rack units (automate bypass/on) and resetting the decay to 0 while the other reverb is active.

what about a sidechain compresser on the reverb using the oringinal sound as an input?

Wow, this makes so much sense. I feel like re-doing everything I’ve done with synths and reverbs. Thanks for sharing this gem with us. The future solution would be for Reverb plug-in developers to implement a “reset” option on reverbs to automatically do this or for DAWs to directly implement this bounce-in-place per region/clip functionality. Either way I hope all these developers are watching and see the problem you’ve described. As time consuming as this solution is (for other DAWs), it seems to be the best way to control reverb tails.

When I watch a hundred videos on music production and / or the use of audio tools to do so, I always see a lot of producers from all around the world using the same plugins. Like Valhalla. Or FabFilter.

What they do, is the opposite of what they actually intent to do with their videos, and that is that I conclude that I DON'T want those plugins. Because then everything I do will also start to sound like what everybody else is doing. And that is the last thing that I want as a composer / producer. So I thank you all, for sounding the same and showing me time after time over and over again WHY you all do sound the same. Keep it on!

Stretch the clips by a tiny bit after the bounce, and set it to crossfade sounds also very nice (les chopped) You can put a sidechain triggered by the dry signal on the bounced reverb as well for controlling the attack. Really interesting technique, sounds really different from just put a reverb with sidechain on it.

This is clever. I guess it works on delays as well...
