After years of living in tiny apartments and not being able to build or modify the space because it was a rental, I have now bought a house so I can build my own personal music room! I’m excited to be able to share the process and progress as it happens. Stay tuned for more episodes!

Forget the Music Room. Build the Record Store.

Great shelving Brendon. I like the colour, it makes them look like expensive hardwood shelving. Looks nice and neat with the CDs in, creating a proper library effect.

Suggestion: If you need more space build more shelves, but this time *put wheels* on the bottom so this way you can place the new shelves *in front* of the ones against the wall, then when you need to access the ones behind, just roll the front shelf away.

I wish my music room had that square footage. I'm jealous!

I have over 30, 000 records and, like you, purchase a lot of music. Keeping them alphabetized in shelves was just an impossible task. Pulling and re-shelving to make room could take hours. Finally, I saw a video with someone who numbered each record and then put it into a database. I have Artist, Album Title, Year, Genre, Album Label, Country of Origin and Abum Notes as my categories. So far, I have just over 10, 000 albums catalogued, and I can find anything instantly. I also have the database on my phone to cut down on the dreaded “double buying.” Now when I bring a new stack of vinyl home, I just put it into the database and add it to the end of the shelf. Life has become sooo much simpler.

I have 2 main sections: Classic Rock (bands or artists who started in the 70's or before) and the post 80's bands/ artists. Then I have smaller sections: Jazz, Soundtracks, Pop, Various Artists, French artists. I also have what I call my "alternate collection", which is stuff that I rarely listen to or albums I have several copies of (alt cover, bonus tracks, ). I don't think any system is perfect, but it has to work for you. Great show!
Cheers.

You've done an awesome job with it so far. As someone who has a big music collection myself, I can definitely feel your pain on this lol. But its kind of like after a workout, you're left feeling exhausted but its a good exhausted

I love your music room. I have to wait for one of my kids to move out to begin my music room. I love what you are doing. I can't wait to see how it all works out!

This inspires me to alphabetize my vinyl collection. It's frustrating to find any specific record now between my shelves and boxes

Hey Brendon, what a massive undertaking. Looks great so far. Can't wait until it's all complete with all of your stereo equipment and CDs finally stored on the shelves. Take care

It is beautiful my friend. The shelving is very tasteful. :)
You did a great job and it must be fun unpacking all that incredible library of discs! Can’t believe you’ve got over 12, 000. :)

Awesome Brendon! Looks great. Wish I had a dedicated music room but space is very much an issue! But I do have some ideas to improve what I do have for storage so hopefully my wife will agree with me! Good luck getting them CD’s out in an order that suits your needs!!!

Wow!! That's really impressive Brendon! It's looking incredible! Your at the fun part now... arranging everything. Alot of work but so satisfying when it's done! Can't wait to see it finished! 😀

Looks great 👍 I like the dark color of the stain. It really makes the colors of the CDS stand out.
I like the light blue walls. It is a calming color.

Looks great and part of the fun/pain is arranging the cds but as you correctly said, gives you time to reflect what you want to keep, have on display and possibly sell.

Just on a different note, 2 shops opened up in Dublin City centre for vinyl and cds

Now have 7 small to medium sized shops to buy from
